Man converts auto-rickshaw into free ambulance, installs oxygen cylinder for serious patients
When COVID-19 cases started to surge in his city, Javed realised he had to do something to help.
As people in many states are gasping for breath and running from pillar to post to secure oxygen cylinders and ICU beds, there are some individuals who are using their skills and technical abilities to provide help in these desperate times.
Javed Khan, an auto driver from Bhopal, is one such person who has used his technical skills to create a life-saving unit.
The 34-year-old has converted his auto into a mobile ambulance that also provides oxygen. Javed has made the innovation with his own and his wife’s savings and is serving people for free.
In the past three days, Javed's auto ambulance has helped 8-10 people in the city of Bhopal, reported The Times Of India.
When COVID-19 cases started to surge in his city, Javed realised he had to do something to help. He took the advice of his family and converted his auto-rickshaw into a mobile ambulance. Now, his small ambulance is complete with oxygen, sanitisers, and medicines.
"I have been driving autos for 18 years. Though no one has been infected in my family, I was very disturbed by the rising death toll and wanted to do something about it with the resources I have," Javed said.
"I have put sanitisers, some medicines, and an oxygen cylinder. In the past three days, I have helped 10 people who were in dire need to reach hospital," he added.
Javed spends around Rs 600 every day filling up the oxygen cylinder, but admits the task has become cumbersome due to the high demand.
"I have to wait 4-5 hours to get the cylinder refilled," he said.
As of now, he has completely stopped ferrying passengers and is devoting his time to helping ailing patients.
Amid the ongoing Covid crisis in the country, heroes have emerged every day.
Earlier this week, a 38-year-old school teacher from Jharkhand's Bokaro drove 1,400 km to Noida with a cylinder in his car to help his ailing friend.
Manoj Gupta, the owner of Rimjhim Ispat Factory in Sumerpur Industrial Area in UP's Hamirpur, is refilling oxygen cylinders at a cost of Re 1 to help in the treatment of Covid patients.
