A book by Tetsuko Kuroyanagi about a young innocent girl named Totto Chan. The book starts with her mother worrying about her because she had just been expelled from her school. And she was only in 1 st Grade. The reason is just because of her young innocence and curiosity. Then they are their own way to another school. Everything was different there, instead of gate post, there were two trees welcoming them. They could see a sign board, the school’s name “ To-moe Ga-Ku-en”. Totto Chan had forgot to ask her mother questions, because then she had spotted that for class rooms the school had made use of old railroad cars. It was so fun everything was unique in the school. The whole book reveals the difference of her new school from her other school. Their Headmaster believed in a fun way of learning, and mostly he understood each child very well. Anybody would wish to study in such a school .The book also tells us many life stages of the young girl, happiness and sorrow, like one time she had went to the fare with her parents and saw young chicks, she wanted them so badly, But her parents told her that they were weak and would die soon. But Totto chan begged them and they finally gave in, they bought a chick for her. After few days her parents’ words had been true, she experienced her first loss. In the school, field trips, fun competitions and many more take place.

All the children in the school have a very happy journey in their ‘train’. The author had expressed even very little descriptions and emotions and makes the book very enjoyable. And it is at the end we understand it is the life story of author herself.
