Bhavans IES Hosts a Webinar on A to Z of Menstruation

The webinar provided a great learning experience to the adolescent girls of IES.

Increased awareness on menstruation and menstrual hygiene right from childhood may escalate safe practices and may help in mitigating the suffering of millions of young women in the world. On this note, Bhavans Indian Education School, Kuwait, under the aegis of the Department of Science organised ‘A to Z of Menstruation’ an awareness programme as part of ‘Meet the Expert Series’, on January 29, 2022, for the teachers, the adolescent girls of grades 7 and 8 and their mothers on its virtual platform at 5.00 p.m.

Dr. Sreejayalalitha Jayaprakash (MBBS, MD, DGO, MRCOG (UK), Obstetrician and Gynaecologist, MedX Medical Care, Fahaheel, Kuwait, was the resource person for the day. The doctor said that menstruation is surrounded by various psychological barriers due to the lack of adequate knowledge about the scientific process of menstruation. She explained the cyclic changes that happen in the uterus during the menstrual cycle. She spoke about menarche and premenstrual syndromes (PMS) symptoms that ninety per cent of women face at some point in their lives. She highlighted the proper use of menstrual accessories like cloth, sanitary napkins, menstrual cups, tampons etc. She said that poor menstrual hygiene management can have a very serious impact on one’s physical and mental health, and she gave several tips to maintain hygiene during menstruation. She added that understanding how one’s period works, why it happens, when to expect it, and the way to manage it are all key factors needed to properly manage one’s menstrual cycle. She advised the students to have a proper healthy diet during their period. She also answered the questions raised by the virtual spectators, which could dispel the potential health risks that might occur due to the ignorance of the right scientific facts and hygienic practices during the menstrual cycle.

The occasion was graced by the presence of Mrs. Anselma Tessy Judeson, Vice Principal, Senior Wing and Mrs. Meenakshi Nayyar, Vice Principal, Middle Wing, and the latter presented a virtual certificate to the resource person as a token of appreciation and expressed her closing thought on the event. The programme ended with a vote of thanks proposed by Manha Anees of 8B.

The webinar provided a great learning experience to the adolescent girls of IES. Bhavans yet again proved its mettle in educating its students to become powerful tools that can create ripples of confidence, zeal, and influence within the society. The session for the day ended with a high-spirited note “Investing in girl’s education is an investment for society as a whole”.
