World Heritage Day Celebrations at IES
‘Our culture is our identity and personality. It gives us spiritual, intellectual, and emotional distinction from others.’ To inculcate our rich cultural value in children, the Department of Social Science of Indian Education School, Kuwait, celebrated World Heritage Day on April 18, 2022, by conducting a range of fun-filled educational activities. The event was coordinated by Ms. Ramila Miranda under the guidance of the Heads of the Department, Mr. Binoy Mathew, and Ms. Ann Bindhia. In efforts to encourage students to appreciate world heritage while also raising awareness of the effects of climate change on sites around the world, the theme for this year was ‘Heritage and Climate’.
The day took off with the morning assembly during which the students of 10 C, Roshini Nair and Riddhiraj Kumar, highlighted the significance of celebrating World Heritage Day, and conveyed a strong message on the preservation of heritage sites. The corridors of the school were transformed into magical portals, transporting one to various sites around the world through colourfully displayed bulletin boards set up by the students. The boards were judged by the highly creative and talented Art teachers of the school. The importance of preserving heritage sites recommended by ICOMOS (The International Council on Monuments and Sites) was reiterated by the students in their respective classrooms as they discussed their findings through photographs and videos. Observed every year, the World Heritage Day celebrations at IES aim to sensitise students to how invaluable and irreplaceable human heritage is, and to recognise the efforts of the various organisations working to preserve it.
The enthusiastic efforts of the student community and teachers to make the day a wonderfully memorable and insightful one, was lauded by the Principal, Mr. T Premkumar and the Vice Principals Ms Meenakshi Nayyar (Senior Wing) and Mr. Binoy Mathew (Middle Wing).
