Bhavans IES Holds a Session on Mental Health Awareness- Anxiety and Coping Mechanisms

The students benefitted immensely from the in-depth knowledge and experience of the resource person.

To promote emotional well-being and empower students with resilience in the face of adversity, IES organized a virtual workshop titled ‘Mental Health Awareness- Anxiety and Coping Mechanisms' for grade 12 students from all the Bhavans Schools in the Middle East on 21 May 2022. The event was organized under the aegis of the Department of Counselling. The Counsellor of the school, Ms. Preethi K Nair welcomed the august gathering and introduced the resource person Dr. Kumud Srivastava, PhD (NCS registered Career Counsellor and Tele-Counsellor of CBSE).

Dr. Kumud Srivastava talked at length about different types of anxiety, physical symptoms, and related concerns of adolescents. She elaborated on how anxiety affects mental health and the ill effects of social media and gadgets on the physical, mental, and social well-being of teenagers. Various strategies to be adopted for mental well-being including CBT (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy), psychotherapy, tips for good health and happiness, resilience and Psychological Immune System were delineated by the resource person.

The students benefitted immensely from the in-depth knowledge and experience of the resource person. She further elucidated the major triggers that lead to mental distress in teenagers. The students were also encouraged by their teachers to share their experiences with the gathering and ask questions to the resource person who, in turn, answered their questions succinctly.

Ms. Meenakshi Nayyar, Vice-principal (Senior Wing) lauded Dr Kumud Srivastava for presenting an informative and comprehensive session on mental health and awareness. Mr. Binoy Mathew, Vice-principal (Middle Wing) praised Dr. Kumud Srivastava for conducting such an insightful session. He also expressed his sincere gratitude to the Counsellor of the School, Ms. Preethi K Nair for coordinating such an enlightening session for the students. The resource person applauded the school management for initiating various awareness-raising programmes for the welfare of students.

The fruitful session concluded with the virtual presentation of an appreciation certificate to the resource person as a token of gratitude by Ms. Meenakshi Nayyar, Vice-principal (Senior Wing). Anagha Jyothish of Grade 12 delivered the vote of thanks. The active participation of students across all the schools under Bhavans Middle East made the session a phenomenal success.
