World Environment Day celebrations at Bhavans Indian Education School

The theme ‘Only One Earth’ was chosen to sensitize the students about environmental issues

Bhavans, Indian Education School, Kuwait celebrated World Environment Day on 5 June 2022, by conducting a smorgasbord of activities on the school campus, under the aegis of the Departments of Science and Social Science. The theme ‘Only One Earth’ was chosen to sensitize the students about environmental issues and to call for a collective action to celebrate, protect, and restore our planet.

The eventful day kicked off with a thought-provoking speech on the importance of observing the World Environment Day by Sharon Justin of grade 12, in the morning assembly. The Kindergarteners came in green attires with their pet-plants to display in their classrooms and made hand printed environment day cards. The immensely talented students of grade 1 made badges with slogans to save the earth. They pinned them on their dresses and flaunted them the entire day. The grade 2 students displayed their artistic acumen by making creative artwork, using colour papers, beads, strings, thread, paper plates, ice cream sticks, straws, plastic spoons, pistachio shells, eggshells, bottle caps, clay along with catchy slogans for World Environment Day. The students of grade 3 made nature-inspired ‘Bookmarks’ using dried and pressed natural flowers, leaves, etc. The grade 4 students made World Environment Day cards using flowers and leaves.

The students of grades 5 to 8 made colourful posters disseminating the messages to take steps to save our mother earth and encourage spreading awareness on the protection of natural resources. A special cultural program, with inspiring speeches, mesmerizing dances, and recitations of sublime poems, conducted in the school auditorium enthralled the audience. The scintillating flash mob performed by the students of grade 12 on the school campus stole the show.

The Principal, Mr. T. Premkumar lauded the sincere efforts of the Departments of Science, Social Science, and Art for their well-exhibited synergy and teamwork. The Vice-Principals, Ms. Meenakshi Nayyar and Mr. Binoy Mathew and the Headmistress Ms. Muneera Mammikutty appreciated the efforts of the teachers for painting a day of the students’ lives with a lot of awareness, happiness and colours.

The epoch-making events ended with the vote of thanks by Mohammed Affan of grade 11. The observance of this year’s World Environment Day in every sense motivated Bhavanities to love, save, and respect our mother earth and her reserves.
