IES COLLABOBORATES WITH UNICENT SCHOOL HYDERABAD FOR AN INNOVATIVE LEARNING PROGRAM ON EVOLUTION OF CLOTHES

The programme was held on December 5, 2022, on zoom platform from 10.00 a.m. to11.30 a.m.

Indian Education School has always been a catalyst for initiating innovative learning programs. The curricular objectives of the school focus on engaging students in direct experience and focused reflection to increase knowledge, develop skills, and clarify values. In the light of these objectives, a collaborative learning program under the aegis of the Department of Social Science of IES Kuwait, was held in partnership with UNICENT school, Hyderabad India. The programme was held on December 5, 2022, on zoom platform from 10.00 a.m. to11.30 a.m.

Selected students of grades 1 and 2 from both the schools presented the program on the topic “Evolution of Clothes”. The students of UNICENT school Hyderabad presented “Evolution of Clothes in India” and the students of Indian Education school Kuwait made a presentation on “Evolution of Clothes in Kuwait”. The main aim of the program was to make children sensitized to the role of clothes in maintaining the cultural identity of the people around the globe.

The programme was excellently coordinated by the teachers of IES, primary section, Ms Betty Babu, Ms Mithula Gopalakrishnan and Ms Sakina Hussain under the guidance of the headmistress, Ms Muneeera Mammikutty. Representing UNICENT school, Hyderabad, with its principal, Ms. C. V. Rama Devi, were Mrs. Sucharita, Mrs. Saritha, Mrs. Jaya Laxmi, Mrs. Sudha Yadav, Mrs. Madhuri Patnaik and the coordinator Mrs. Asha Nambiar.

IES Bhavans, Kuwait Holds its 14th Annual Athletic Meet: ‘Funathon 2022’

The programme started with a welcome address followed by shloka recitation by the students of UNICENT school. The program included exploration of IDS activities conducted in the school, a song on the importance of saree, pep talk on different clothing styles of India and a skit on minimalistic wardrobe.

Around 30 students from Indian Educational School participated in the presentation. They presented the varied dressing styles of Kuwaiti people and how they evolved from the traditional kind of dressing to the modern trends. Dishdasha, Abaya, Hijab, Bisht and Dara were presented. The students performed a traditional wedding dance in ethnic wedding dresses. The exuberant boys and girls also performed a scintillating festival dance wearing beautiful Kuwaiti traditional attires. All the presentations were well planned and conducted very meticulously. It was truly an effective learning strategy. A fine example of experiential learning program.

Abraham Benedict of grade 2, IES, proposed the vote of thanks. Ms Asha, of UNICENT school Hyderabad lauded the commendable performance of the students and appreciated the minimalistic dressing sense of the Kuwaiti people and emphasised on using clothes wisely and not wasting them.

Closing the session, the principal of UNICENT school, Ms. C.V Rama Devi, commended the students and shared her pearls of wisdom with them. Headmistress of IES, Ms Muneera Mammikutty extolled the excellent work showcased by the children of both the schools and thanked the teachers who guided them. She expressed her sincere gratitude to the management, principal, and staff of UNICENT school for partnering with IES for such a noble venture.

The collaborative program was a great success. It helped create an awareness in the children on the importance of ethnic wear, changing trends in clothes and the importance and beliefs behind the attires of both nations. It enabled students to share their knowledge beyond the walls of their respective schools and gave them the exposure to understand the topics from diverse perspectives.
