Career Guidance Session: Pathways to your Career Goals

The eminent career guidance counsellor, Mr. Jitin Chawla, was the main speaker on both days.

The advancement of artificial intelligence (AI), increase in mechanization, wider use of information and communication technology (ICT), and the adoption of blended workspaces have greatly changed the career landscape in recent years. To ensure that students are well-oriented about new career paths and to provide them with a roadmap that will help them make well-informed career choices, the Department of Counseling of Indian Education School, Kuwait, organised a career guidance session for the students of 9 to 12 on the 11th and 12th of December 2022. The eminent career guidance counsellor, Mr. Jitin Chawla, was the main speaker on both days.

IES School Counselor, Ms. Preeti K. Nair, delivered the welcome address and introduced the speaker of the session, Mr. Jitin Chawla. Mr. Chawla is the Founder and Director of North India’s topmost ‘Career Counselling and Study Abroad’ firm in Delhi, the Centre for Career Development. An MBA graduate from Delhi University, Mr. Chawla has conducted over 300 career counselling workshops in India and the Middle East.

The first day of the career guidance session catered to the students of Grades 10 and 12. The session started with an entertaining icebreaker after which Mr. Chawla spoke of the importance of research on various courses and how the amalgamation of careers has opened endless possibilities for students to choose from. He highlighted various free courses that would help students upskill themselves in the fields of finance, programming, artificial intelligence, designing, advertising, computational linguistics, data sciences, and many more, which would prepare them to excel in the new age of career development.

Mr. Chawla also spoke in depth on the universities related not only to engineering and medicine, but also digital programming, Fintech, business analytics, liberal arts, and environment and sustainability. He also addressed the latest information on NEET and JEE courses pertaining to NRI and foreign students. Entrance-related information in the fields of engineering, medicine, law, and design was also explained in detail.

The first-day session drew to a close with a vote of thanks by the Vice Principal of IES, Ms. Meenakshi Nayyar, who expressed her immense gratitude to Mr. Jitin Chawla for the enlightening and inspiring session.

The second day of the career guidance session focused on counselling the students of Grades 9 and 11. The Principal of IES, Mr. T. Premkumar, extended a warm welcome and introduced the main speaker of the day, Mr.Jitin Chawla. Mr. T. Premkumar appreciated Mr. Chawla’s efforts in guiding students to make decisive choices in an age of constantly evolving career dynamics. After the ice breaker session, the speaker spoke at length about the relevance of keeping an open mind towards career choices and carefully selecting a career based on one’s understanding of self, personality, aptitude, and interest. All queries related to the different courses and their requirements were patiently answered by Mr. Jitin Chawla at the end of his presentation.

The students of Grades 9 and 11 also had the wonderful opportunity to attend an interactive session with a senior faculty member of the Department of Civil Engineering, Dr. Venkata Dilip Kumar, Mahindra University. Dr. Kumar has published more than 100 research papers and has been conferred with the Certificate of Excellence in the domains of Research and Academics by the Institute of Engineers, India. He works in collaboration with universities from Germany, Portugal, South Korea, and Japan. Dr. Dilip Kumar spoke about the varied disciplines that students could take up at the university level, ranging from B.Tech, Law, Management, and Liberal Arts.

The students of grades 9 and 11 were enthralled with the information and courses shared by both speakers. The second day of the career guidance session ended with a vote of thanks given by Shaunak Sameer of Grade 11. He thanked the eminent speakers for taking time out of their busy schedules to share their knowledge with the students of IES and impart an exhaustive list of courses and information about New Age careers in various fields.

The career guidance session, under the leadership of the Principal of IES, Kuwait, Mr. T. Premkumar, was a grand success. Both parents and students were grateful for the excellent sessions that brought many new and unheard-of career paths to the fore while proving a clear idea of the courses to be taken to excel in them.
