IES COLLABOBORATES WITH UNICENT SCHOOL HYDERABAD FOR AN INNOVATIVE LEARNING PROGRAM ON: ‘AVES DEMEANOR’

Indian Education School has always been in the forefront for initiating innovative learning programs. The curricular objectives of the school focus on engaging students in direct experience and focused reflection to increase knowledge, develop skills, and clarify values. In the light of these objectives, a collaborative learning program under the aegis of the Department of Social Science of IES Kuwait, was held in partnership with UNICENT school, Hyderabad India.  The programme was held on January 18, 2023, on zoom platform from 10.00 a.m. to11.30 a.m.  

Selected students of grades 3 and 4 from both the schools presented the program on the topic “AVES DEMEANOR”. Through this project, children of Grades 3 and 4 learnt about various behaviors of birds in India and Kuwait. The main aim of the programme was to create an awareness about the birds in India and Kuwait and their behavior patterns. Both the schools selected some common birds found in both the regions and presented the theme ‘Aves Demeanor’. They discussed details regarding the flying, flocking, nesting, parenting, foraging, migrating, preening, dancing and signatures of some common birds of both the countries. 

The programme started with the recitation of Sanskrit shlokas. The students of UNICENT made a presentation on the birds of India like flamingo, cuckoo, starling, woodpecker, cormorants etc. They explored the world of birds to discover their features, know and learn the reason behind their behaviors. They also showcased some class activities which included observation of birds and data collection. After the presentation, the quiz master of UNICENT school asked riddles about birds.

IES Bhavans, Kuwait Holds its 14th Annual Athletic Meet: ‘Funathon 2022’

The students of IES dressed up in costumes of falcon, Lilith owl, golden eagle, black stork, dead sea sparrow etc., spoke at length about the birds and their behaviour patterns. They also spoke about how migratory birds are responsible for making Kuwait become an ecotourist destination for adventurous birders and nature travellers. The students of IES presented an Arabic song on birds, and a dance to protect birds. Akshaya Sreeram of 4B presented the story of Sadaku. The presentations were well appreciated by the students of UNICENT. The programme ended with ‘Imagine Dragons’ song by Devang of grade 4E.  

The program was well coordinated by Ms. Ninu Sreekumar and Ms. Athira P.V. At the end of the programme, Headmistress Ms. Muneera Mammikutty appreciated the efforts taken by the teachers and students of both the schools for putting up a grand show. She congratulated the principal of UNICENT School Hyderabad, Ms. Ramadevi for taking the initiative for this collaborative programme. Ms Ramadevi reiterated the significance of birds as an integral part of nature and asked the children to recognize it as a moral responsibility of showing care and respect for other life forms.  

The programme ended with sharing of the experiences by the students of both the schools about what they learnt. Vote of thanks was proposed by Mohammad Abdul Samad of 4D.
