ASIS STUDENT COUNCIL ELECTION 2023-24
“Casting a ballot isn’t just something you do for yourself-it is for our collective future.”
With an objective to give voice to the opinions, ideas and concerns of the student body in front of school faculty, to train students in leadership and to aid various departments of school in planning, communication and implementation of events, an election of the Student council for the Academic session 2023-24 was conducted in Al Saad Indian School, Al Ain, on May 10, 2023. The day witnessed rousing cheers and febrile excitement as the school held the election for the Student Council.
Principal, Dr, Bhavna Gupta, who headed the Election Commission declared the dates of the election on April 25, 2023 and requested the parents to encourage their wards to stand for the election. Following that, the students submitted their nominations for the posts of Head Girl, Head Boy, Junior Head Girl, Junior Head Boy, Cultural Captain, Cultural Vice Captain, Sports Captain, Sports Vice Captain, Senior Prefects, Junior Prefects, Student Editor and various House Positions. The nominations were thoroughly scrutinized by the Election Committee which comprised of the Principal, Dr. Bhavna Gupta, Vice Principal, Mr. Thomas Francis, Presiding Officer, Ms. Suneetha Manojkumar and other members of the Social Science department. The students who submitted their nominations had to meet certain criteria such as good disciple, good score etc. The excitement reached a feverish pitch with the Meet the Candidate session scheduled on May 9, 2023, as the candidates outlined their plans of action and policies. Their body language provided it with an aura of proper parliamentary elections. The candidates for the various coveted positions made attractive posters to convince the students that they are the right choice for the position. The campaign was followed by the casting of votes in the ballot boxes, thus proceeding with election in a democratic procedure.
On the election day, the special correspondents of ASIS News Desk, Ms. Zairah and Ms. Samrhruthi of grade 6 bombarded the candidates with pointed questions concerning their electoral manifesto. None of the candidates tried to prevaricate throughout their presentations. The students of grades 3 to 12 had the privilege of voting and electing their leaders. Students exercised their right to franchise by choosing the candidates of their choice and the whole digital vote casting process was meticulously coordinated by Ms. Priyanka Haridas and Ms. Anusha Unnikrishnan, Department of IT. The school believes that the election provided an opportunity to the students to witness and exercise their fundamental right to vote. After the toiling of a few days of campaigning and casting of votes, the much-awaited result of the School Student Council Election 2023-24 was declared on May 12 by the Principal who also congratulated the winners and wished them all success in steering the student council for the academic year 2023-24.
