FIELD TRIP TO ABUDHABI INTERNATIONAL BOOK FAIR
"Books are the quietest and most constant of friends; they are the most accessible and wisest of counselors, and the most patient of teachers." - Charles W. Eliot
With Charles W. Eliot's words in mind, on May 25, 2023, the students of Grade 11 from Al Saad Indian School embarked on an educational field trip to the Abu Dhabi International Book Fair. The trip aimed to expose students to diverse literary works, foster a love for reading, and provide them with an enriching cultural experience. The fair showcased a wide range of books, exhibitions, and interactive activities.
The students arrived at the Abu Dhabi International Book Fair in the morning, accompanied by their teachers. Upon entering the fair, they were greeted by a vibrant and bustling atmosphere, with various pavilions representing different genres and themes. The students split into smaller groups and began exploring the fair's offerings. The fair featured numerous pavilions, each dedicated to a particular genre, topic, or country. The students visited pavilions representing diverse literary traditions, including classic literature, contemporary fiction, science fiction, fantasy, biography, history, poetry, and more. They had the opportunity to browse through an extensive collection of books, engage with publishers, and discover new authors and titles.
Moreover, the fair hosted special exhibitions, including showcases of rare books, historical manuscripts, and interactive displays on literary themes. These exhibitions offered valuable insights into the evolution of literature and its cultural significance. Students had the chance to admire the beauty of ancient texts and gain a deeper understanding of the importance of preserving literary heritage. Throughout the visit, students enthusiastically purchased books that caught their interest. The fair provided an excellent opportunity for them to expand their personal libraries and explore new literary genres. Many students made informed choices based on recommendations from their teachers and peers, while others were captivated by book covers, synopses, and excerpts they encountered.
To enhance the overall experience, the Abu Dhabi International Book Fair organized various interactive games and shows. Students participated in various games shows, showcasing their knowledge and passion for literature. These activities fostered a spirit of healthy competition and encouraged students to actively engage with the books they encountered. The games and shows not only entertained the students but also deepened their understanding of literary concepts and authors. On the whole the field trip to the Abu Dhabi International Book Fair proved to be a highly rewarding experience for the Grade 11 students of Al Saad Indian School as it not only broadened their literary horizons but also contributed to their overall personal and academic development.
