Ronaldo hardly manages to keep himself away from the news and although his team, Portugal, didn't go beyond the Round of 16, the superstar forward managed to make plenty of noise both on the field and off it.
While Ronaldo is the top-scoring player in the competition so far with 5 strikes to his name, his gesture towards Coca-Cola in a Euro 2020 news conference had created plenty of stir in the world of brand marketing. Despite Ronaldo's act of snubbing Coke, brands have continued to put their faith in the 5-time Ballon d'Or winner.
“As Covid-19 continues to impact all our lives, it appears that Instagram is one of the few places not negatively impacted by the pandemic, and with people using the app more than ever before, some could say it was inevitable earnings would peak this year," said Mike Bandar, co-founder of Hopper HQ, the agency which collated the data of top Instagram earners.
“It was great to see Cristiano Ronaldo take the number one spot this year after steadily ranking within the top five throughout the list’s history.
“With the Euros this year and a few controversial marketing moves over the last couple of weeks, the football royalty’s presence has skyrocketed."
Ronaldo is the most followed sportsperson on Instagram, with a fanbase of over 300 million users. His total social media following goes beyond the 550 million mark.
