Kerala temple denies permission to transgender wedding

The Shenkunthar Kalyana Mandapam on the Pollachi road in Kollengode was to host the wedding ceremony as well as the 'thaalikettu' ritual.

On Thursday, a temple in Kerala's Palakkad district turned down a transgender couple's request to wed there.

Neelankrishna and Adwaika were denied permission by the Kachamkurissy temple authorities in Kollengode, in the Palakkad district, to tie the "thaali" (holy thread/wedding chain) on Thursday morning.

After that, the wedding ceremony, which included the "thaalikettu" ritual, was place in the Shenkunthar Kalyana Mandapam at Kollengode, which is situated on the Pollachi road. According to the temple administration, they chose not to permit the 'thaali' to be tied at the temple because there had never been a transgender marriage there before.
