Super 30 founder and mathematician Anand Kumar to receive Padma Shri
Mathematician and founder of Super 30 Anand Kumar is one of the three people from Bihar who have been conferred with prestigious Padma awards ahead of the 74th Republic Day.
Anand Kumar will be awarded a Padma Shri in the field of literature and education.
Along with Kumar, Subhadra Devi, a Mithila artist, has been awarded Padma Shri in the field of Arts. Apart from this, Kapil Dev Prasad from Nalanda has also been awarded a Padma Shri in the field of textile arts.
Anand Kumar is a noted mathematician and academician who is best known for running a coaching institute by the name Super 30 for poor and underprivileged students for admission in engineering colleges like IIT. Kumar is recognised both nationally and internationally for his initiative to run a coaching institute for underprivileged students.
The mathematician from Bihar took to social media to express his happiness after being conferred the Padma Shri and said, "The Government of India has announced to honour me with the Padma Shri, special thank you for considering me worthy of this honour. At the same time, heartfelt thanks to all those people who did not leave my side even in the most difficult situations".
Anand Kumar was born on January 1, 1973. He started Super 30 in 2002. Anand Kumar's life and work have also been portrayed in a 2019 film, titled Super 30, where his role was played by Hrithik Roshan.
The Ministry of Home Affairs announced the Padma Awards on Wednesday, on the eve of the 74th Republic Day. Six people were awarded the Padma Vibhushan, nine were given the Padma Bhushan and 91 people will be awarded the Padmi Shri.
