Ford Ranger Raptor could come to India next year

The American company is likely to bring Ranger's top-spec model -- Raptor -- to our shores

Currently, the only pick-up truck (for personal use) in the country is Isuzu D-Max V-Cross which is yet to meet BS6 emission state. However, this SUV is likely to receive a few new rivals next year. Toyota has started evaluating Hilux for the Indian market and is conducting a survey to gauge the demand for Hilux. However, it looks like even Ford is planning to join this segment and could introduce the Ranger pick-up truck in India next year. The American company is likely to bring Ranger's top-spec model -- Raptor -- to our shores and the SUV has already been spotted here. As of now, nothing's official but the word on the street is that Ford could start with importing Raptor to our shores as a way to test the waters and only then will proceed towards localising the pick-up truck.

Ford Ranger Raptor is essentially Endeavour's pick-up version and both the SUVs look quite similar. But the Raptor gets a large grille flanked by quad-beam LED headlamps. The Raptor gets a different rear-end design on the account of vertical tail lights and 'Raptor' badging on the tailgate.

Ford Ranger Raptor gets a more robust suspension setup as compared to Endeavour SUV in the form of Fox 2.5-inch off-road racing coilovers which offer 30% extra wheel travel. The SUV gets a four-wheel drivetrain with a Terrain Management System that offers six traction modes -- Normal, Grass-Gravel-Snow, Mud-Sand, Sport, Rock, and Baja.

The Australia-spec Ranger is available with a 2.0-litre engine that makes 210.5 bhp and 500 Nm of peak torque. This makes the SUV significantly more powerful than Endeavour that has168 bhp and 420 Nm on tap. The pick-up truck will be offered in combination with a ten-speed torque converter automatic transmission only.
