Mahindra unveils the all-new XUV700 SUV with advanced features

The top-end version of the XUV700 will also get Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS).

Mahindra & Mahindra on Saturday revealed the much anticipated XUV700 sports utility vehicle. The seven-seater SUV is its biggest launch in recent times and is expected to give the homegrown automaker a boost at a time, its facing tough competition from foreign, especially Korean rivals, on its bread and butter SUV turf.

The XUV700 joins part of a growing tribe of seven-seater SUVs like the Tata Safari, Hyundai Alcazar and the MG Hector Plus. With these top brands already seeing good traction in the market, Mahindra had its task cut out.

The XUV700 comes packed with features. It is also among the most powerful in the segment. It will be available in two engine options—the 2.2-litre mHawk diesel engine and a 2.0-litre turbocharged mStallion Petrol engine. It will also get an all-wheel-drive variant.

It will be offered in four trims—the base MX Series. The other three trims—AX3, AX5 and AX7—will get the much talked about AdrenoX intelligent system with over 60 connected features. You could, for instance, ask the inbuilt Alexa voice assistant to open its largest in segment sunroof.

There is also an integrated 10.25-inch dual screen dashboard, with the underlying software architecture built on Android and Qualcomm Snapdragon Automotive Cockpit platforms.

Some of the other notable features include smart door handles, a smart filter technology for clean air inside the cabin as well as four drive modes – Zip, Zap, Zoom and a custom mode to alter performance as well as steering sensitivity on demand.

The top-end version of the XUV700 will also get Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS). It includes advanced collision warning, lane departure warning, adaptive cruise control and autonomous emergency brakes, where using both cameras and radar, the driver will be warned of a possible collision and if you don’t react the system is designed to automatically apply the brakes.

The XUV700 also comes with driver drowsiness detection. Other safety features include anti-lock braking system, seven airbags (include curtain airbags extending up to the third row in higher-end trims) and its equipped with frontal and side crash sensors for better airbag deployment.

Mahindra has also said that some of the optional packs including an immersive 3D sound system by Sony, electrically deployed smart door handles, 360-degree surround view, blind view monitoring, electronic park brake and wireless charging will be announced at a later date.
