E-degrees on a par with regular ones, says UGC

Post graduate diplomas awarded through open, distance learning or online mode by higher educational institutions, shall be treated equal to conventional mode.

Amid the current higher education admission season, the University Grants Commission (UGC) on Friday reiterated that degrees earned through the online/distance mode from institutions recognised by UGC will be treated as equivalent to those obtained through conventional mode.

In a public circular dated September 2, 2022, UGC said, “Degrees at undergraduate and postgraduate level in conformity with UGC notification on specification of degrees, 2014 and, post graduate diplomas awarded through open and distance learning or online mode by higher educational institutions, shall be treated as equivalent to the corresponding degrees and post graduate diploma offered through conventional mode.”
