Lockdown reviews: The psychopath in Amy Dunne of 'Gone Girl' was a vicious narcissist
As the name goes, I thought it would be another story of a teenage girl who got lost or maybe an eloping love story. But amazing me, the movie seemed like a perfect treat to the lockdown boredom and frustration.
Loving every aspect of the movie, I never knew people could be so manipulative and perfectly good with planning out their own murder case as a punishment to a cheating husband.
It is not a subtle film, but rather a harsh one where a psycho wife manipulates her murder to hurt her husband for cheating her with a young, beautiful, smart college student of his, unlike his wife who seemed to be boring and 'out of the blue' girl who was the living 'Amazing Amy', a series of book, starring a young girl.
Since its a pretty old movie, most of you might have seen the movie and a review of the same would seem worthless. So to start with Amy Dunne, is beautiful, rich which every girl would want to be but also she is self-centred, manipulative and most of all NOT NORMAL. She's a psychopath gone wild.
THE PSYCHOPATH AMY
As a psychopath she was fearless. While framing her husband of infidelity she killed a man and hurt herself, a couple of times. Such people are ready to take a risk and are not afraid of the negative consequences. She was also least bothered about other people and was self-absorbed, treating others as only objects.
In an attempt to surprise her husband she goes to his bar and finds him with a young girl leaving his bar and later kissing her. With months of proper, meticulous planning she creates a perfect murder story to frame her husband.
In case of narcissist people, if someone breaks their heart or trust, an agressive revenge sparks in them, no matter how close they are.
And of course, her self-centred behaviour can be well seen in scenes where she enjoys news covering of her disappearance. She loves all the cameras, clicks, national media and all the attention. Dunne planning her murder story can also be called 'Machiavellianism'. It refers to a personality trait which sees a person so focused on their own interests they will manipulate, deceive, and exploit others to achieve their goals.
Despite all that happened, she returns back to her husband and gets pregnant using in-vitro fertilization, with the help of the sperms she had kept frozen before disappearing. She wants to keep him stuck with a complicated relation with her.
Poor Nick!
