Viral News: English and Italian football fans not amused by ‘Fish n Chips pizza’, Domino’s responds
The debate about the best football team in Europe may be over with the conclusion of Euro 2020, but food jokes about the two finalists, England and Italy, are still continuing unabated on social media.
The ‘Fish and Chips vs Pizza’ memes and jokes started trending just after England and Italy qualified for the finals.
Social media users argued which cuisine is better and even turned food pictures into memes with texts like ‘don’t add pineapples to pizza’, ‘you cannot put fish on chips’, ‘fish and chips or pasta’.
As the nations were divided after the final match, a food brand has created a pizza to bring the two groups of fans back together.
Domino's Japan has created a 'Fish and Chips pizza', that is topped with lemon slices, potatoes, basil and tomato sauce. According to reports, the pizza costs 4,200 yen in Japan.
Mark Evans shared a screenshot of the pizza and wrote: "Japan Dominos have invented a dish that insults both England and Italy."
"Just to FYI that I would probably quite enjoy eating this," he added.
The tweet garnered thousands of reactions and resonated with other users who agreed the invention was an insult to both countries.
A user wrote, "I was about to say that I’d try it until I saw the whole ass lemon wedges. Nah sis you gotta drizzle it, not bake it into the whole pie."
"I was already disgusted then I saw the lemon slices," wrote another.
Some users shared photos of bizarre food times that represented the fusion of Italian and English cuisines - Like an all-English breakfast on a pizza base.
After Mark's tweet amassed over 5,000 retweets and 22,000 likes, Domino's Japan responded from their official handle.
