Feast your eyes on the 'World's most expensive sandwich' - It has been relaunched for Rs 17,500
A regular sandwich at a fast-food joint can cost you anything between Rs 100-500. A gourmet sandwich at bigger restaurant can set you back by Rs 500-Rs 1,000.
But at New York's 'Serendipity3' restaurant, their flagship sandwich comes for an eye-watering $214 (Rs 17,500).
The restaurant recently re-launched their ‘Quintessential Grilled Cheese’ sandwich for a limited period in a bid to celebrated National Grilled Cheese Sandwich Day.
Serendipity3 set has been the holder of the Guinness World Record for the world's most expensive sandwich since 2014.
The sandwich had not been a part of their menu for a while. But recently, the eatery announced its revival via an Instagram post.
The Post read: "We are bringing back yet another Guinness World Record[s]-winning dish for a limited time only. This National Grilled Cheese Day (April 12th), S3 in New York will be offering ‘The Quintessential Grilled Cheese Sandwich,’ which achieved the Guinness World Record[s] for the most expensive sandwich in the world, priced at $214."
Why is it so expensive?
The sandwich is not readily available at the restaurant. Order for it normally needs to be placed 8 hours in advance.
It is served on two pieces of French Pullman champagne bread made with Dom Perignon champagne and has edible 23k gold flakes baked into it.
The bread is covered with truffle butter and brushed with white truffle oil. It even has the rare Caciocavallo Podolico cheese, which comes for upwards of $50 per pound, according to a CNBC report.
Caciocavallo Podolico cheese is super expensive because it is produced by 25,000 cows in Italy between May and June.
When the sandwich is ready to be served, it is cut diagonally. Each half gets a layer of edible gold flakes.
The sandwich is served with a South African lobster tomato bisque on the side instead of a regular tomato soup.
That's pretty much everything there's to know about the sandwich.
Serendipity3 also holds the Guinness World Records for the most expensive French fries and the most expensive milkshake.
