Delhi violence | Police arrests PFI leaders Parvez Ahmed, and Illiyas for funding link

Mohammad Ilyas was detained by Special Cell of Delhi Police in connection with Shaheen Bagh funding case. Mohammad Ilyas is a resident of Shiv Vihar and had also contested from Karwal Nagar.

The Delhi Police Special Cell on Thursday (March 12) arrested Popular Front of India (PFI) secretary Ilyas in connection with alleged PFI-Shaheen Bagh link.

PFI used to put up to Rs 6000 small amounts in different accounts. In whose account money came. Some used to give a small amount from 3000 to 4000. And used to take the rest in cash. So that it could not come under scrutiny. A PAN card has to be deposited with the bank after a transaction of 50 thousand.

PFI used to deposit a small amount of sums up to Rs 49,000 to avoid scrutiny because a PAN card has to be deposited with the bank for a transaction of Rs 50,000. In whose account the money was transferred a small amount is given and the remaining is taken out in cash.

Earlier, a PFI member Danish during interrogation had revealed that the organisation was "deeply involved" in anti-CAA protests and riots that broke out in the northeast district of Delhi last month, sources said on Wednesday.

The investigations had revealed that the senior PFI functionaries have admitted to certain transactions linking the outfit to the funding of anti-CAA protests in the capital and some other places. The agency had also questioned several people connected with PFI at its Delhi headquarters and found evidence of collection of Rs 120 crore, at least Rs 50 crore of which came as cash donations for which the source was not disclosed. The PFI is headquartered at Shaheen Bagh in Delhi.

The ED officials said that two-thirds of all the deposits are kept in cash at PFI’s headquarters in G-78, Shaheen Bagh, Delhi. Reportedly, the local handlers connected to the radical Islamic organisation collected cash from their respective areas all across the country and travelled to Delhi to deposit it at the organisation’s headquarters.
