India’s tally tops 78,000, death toll climbs to 2,549; govt says ‘virus doubling in 13.9 days’  

The global death toll from the novel coronavirus has reached 300,000, mark with over 4.42 million cases of infections, according to the Johns Hopkins University.

The nationwide tally of the confirmed cases of the novel coronavirus has breached the 78,000-mark in the country while over 2,500 people have died, as per the data available at the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. The recovery rate in India has also improved to 32 per cent as more than 26,000 people have been cured and discharged from hospitals, as per the Health Ministry.

Amid the spike in the number of coronavirus cases, Health Minister Dr Harsh Vardhan said that the doubling time of the number of cases has improved to 13.9 days in the last three days. He also said the testing capability has been ramped up to nearly one lakh tests per day and the total number of tests conducted so far is about 20 lakh now.
