Titan Company-owned jewellery brand Tanishq has withdrawn a 45-second ad showcasing a Hindu woman married into a Muslim family. The ad showed a Muslim family preparing a traditional Hindu baby shower ceremony for their pregnant Hindu daughter-in-law. Several people called for a boycott of Tanishq, alleging the ad promoted "love jihad" and "fake secularism".

Following the backlash the YouTube link for the ad was made private, making it unavailable for people to view it.

‘Love jihad’ is a term coined by Hindu extremist groups, referring to an alleged campaign by Muslims to convert Hindu girls in the guise of love.

"So Hindutva bigots have called for a boycott of @TanishqJewelry for highlighting Hindu-Muslim unity through this beautiful ad. If Hindu-Muslim "ekatvam" irks them so much, why don't they boycott the longest surviving symbol of Hindu-Muslim unity in the world -- India?" Shashi Tharoor tweeted along with the ad.
