Andhra city authorities give a befitting 'return gift' to households who dump garbage on the roads

Kakinada Municipal Corporation's commissioner Swapnil Dinkar Pundkar, was the brainchild behind this initiative.

The coastal city of Kakinada in Andhra Pradesh has decided that they will not take it anymore and has come up with the perfect way to punish the ones who violate the rules.

The city authorities came up with the 'Return Gift' initiative. In it, a household that dumps the garbage on the road instead of handing it to the assigned sanitary workers, are given back the same at their doorsteps. The purpose of this practice was to make such violators realize their mistakes so that they do not repeat it again.

Kakinada Municipal Corporation's commissioner Swapnil Dinkar Pundkar, was the brainchild behind this initiative. The city authority had employed around 900 sanitary workers to collect garbage from home. Due to many not complying with the rules even after many awareness drives, Pundkar had to resort to this.

Speaking to the Times of India, he also mentioned the future endeavors that he wishes to bring about. He said, "I am planning to make Kakinada dumper bins free as people are not placing the garbage in them as they are big. We are trying to bring in about 100 tippers to replace pushcarts which are now being used to carry garbage."
