Monkey menace an important agenda in Wayanad municipal polls

From removing the tiles from rooftops to stealing food from kitchens, the monkeys are nothing but an absolute nuisance

From basic sanitation to empowerment, all these agendas hold precedence in such elections. However, in Kerala's Wayanad, a unique yet contentious agenda has made the news.

The Harithagiri Residents in the Kalpetta Municipality of the city decided that they will only give their vote to that candidate who is able to curb the havoc monkeys have caused in the area. For the people living in the said area, the monkey menace has been troubling them for a while.

From removing the tiles from rooftops to stealing food from kitchens, the monkeys are nothing but an absolute nuisance for the residents there.

According to the residents there, none of the governing bodies have taken any action against it till now. A 62-year-old woman expressed her distress to ANI and wanted immediate relief from the same. She said, "I have decided to vote only if a candidate assures me that the problems created by monkeys." Due to the food disappearing frequently, she keeps all of it in the bedroom so that they are kept away from them.

A postman named Rakesh passes the area daily for his work and he has to encounter the monkeys on the way. "Every time I go to a house, someone will have to drive away from the monkeys," he told the news organization.

The residents are extremely serious about this agenda. In front of the candidates' posters, they have put up banners saying that the candidates should assure them that they will find the perfect solution to solve the monkey menace in the area.

Though an unusual, agenda, it is still important for whoever comes in power to cater to the needs of the people. Therefore, this trivial yet important matter can be something the candidates in Kalpetta municipality to look into to win the trust of the public.
