Cyclone Burevi to change into deep depression when it enters Kerala

The path of Cyclone Burevi has changed, providing relief to the people of Kerala's coasts. The cyclone will reach Kerala only by Friday afternoon.

The cyclone's intensity will reduce and will become a deep depression when it reaches Kerala. However, strong wind and rainfall should be expected when it arrives.

As per the reports of IMD, the intensity of Cyclone Burevi has come down at Tamil Nadu itself and it has become a deep depression. It is likely to enter Kerala through Ponmudi and move towards the Arabian Sea between Varkala and Paravur.

The district administration has taken steps to rehabilitate the plantation workers living in shelter homes at Ponmudi. They will be brought to the rehabilitation centers in KSRTC buses.

The cyclone will travel at a speed of 75 mph when it moves towards Kerala from Tirunelveli and Thenkasi in Tamil Nadu.

Cyclone Burevi, which originated in the south-east Bay of Bengal has reached the Mannar coastline. It has been moving towards the west at a speed of 13 mph for the last 6 hours. It is currently 30 kms away from Mannar, 110 kms from Pamban and 310 kms from Kanyakumari. Currently, the maximum speed of the cyclone is 70 to 80 mph. Sometimes, it even reaches 90 mph.

As per the latest bulletin of IMD, Cyclone Burevi has become a deep depression. The guidelines issued by IMD have been modified on the basis of change in path of the cyclone.

Orange alerts have been declared in Kottayam, Ernakulam districts on December 3, 2020, Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Ernakulam, Idukki districts on December 4.

Yellow alerts were issued in Thrissur, Palakkad, Malappuram districts on December 3, 4, Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Idukki, Kottayam and Ernakulam districts on December 5 and Pathanamthitta, Idukki, Malappuram, Wayanad districts on December 6.
