China builds village in Arunachal Pradesh? MEA says India takes necessary measures to safeguard sovereignty

The report stated that the ‘houses’ have been built in an area disputed by India and China.

As India and China continue to remain locked in a months-long bitter border standoff in eastern Ladakh, Beijing is undertaking construction work along with the border areas near Arunachal Pradesh, a report said.

US-based imaging company Planet Labs has satellite images and claimed that around 100 houses have been built along the river Tsari Chu in upper Subansiri district in Arunachal Pradesh. Notably, there was no construction at a particular place in 2019.

Meanwhile, reacting on the reports of a Chinese village in Arunachal, the ministry of external affairs replied to the reports, saying the government has seen recent reports on China undertaking construction work along the border areas. The government said it keeps a strict vigil on all the developments which threaten India’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.

The MEA stated that India has significantly stepped up building infrastructure projects in the border areas for the improvement of livelihood of its citizens, including in Arunachal Pradesh.

"We have seen recent reports on China undertaking construction work along the border areas with India. China has undertaken such infrastructure construction activity in the past several years," the MEA said.

"In response, our government too has stepped up border infrastructure including the construction of roads, bridges etc, which has provided much-needed connectivity to the local population along the border," it added.

NDTV has showcased two images where China has reportedly build the houses. As per the first image dated August 26, 2019 did not show any human habitation, the second one of November 2020 shows structures.

The report stated that the ‘houses’ have been built in an area disputed by India and China.

BJP’s Arunachal Pradesh MP Tapir Gao has claimed that the Beijing is still going ahead with construction and has entered more than 60-70km inside the Upper Subansiri district if you follow the path along the river. He also claimed that the Chinese are also building a road along the river.

Meanwhile, Congress has demands explanation from the Modi government over the report of Chinese infrastructure project in the ‘Indian territory’.

“Reports suggest China has built an entire village inside Indian territory in Arunachal Pradesh. Would the Modi govt care to corroborate this news & tell us how they plan to respond? If true, it proves China has understood PM Modi puts his image above national sovereignty,” Congress tweeted.
