Jan 26 protest violence: Delhi Police announce Rs 1L reward for information on Deep Sidhu, flag-hoister Jugraj Singh

Sidhu claimed he is not in Mumbai and is rather living with Bihari labourers.

In a significant development in the January 26 violence case, the Delhi Police on Wednesday announced cash rewards for providing information on several suspects, including Punjabi actor-cum-activist Deep Sidhu. Sidhu has been accused of inciting and leading protesting farmers on tractors to the Red Fort, where a religious flag was unfurled on the day India was celebrating its Republic Day.

As per the information available, the Delhi Police have announced a cash reward of Rs 1 lakh each for information leading to the arrest of Deep Sidhu, who has been missing since the January 26 violence.

The police have announced Rs 1 lakh cash reward each for information on Jugraj Singh, who had climbed the flagpole at the Red Fort and unfurled the religious flag; Gurjot Singh and Gurjant Singh. Further, Rs 50,000 reward each for information leading to the arrest of Jajbir Singh, Buta Singh, Sukhdev Singh and Iqbal Singh has also been declared.

All the above-named people allegedly played a role in instigating the January 26 violence in the national capital.

Deep Sidhu and Lakha Sidhana arrested for Republic Day violence

Actor-turned-activist Deep Sidhu, who has gone into hiding after being booked by the Delhi Police for "masterminding" the violence in Delhi on Republic Day (January 26, 2021), released a new video on Sunday, in which he could be seen crying and expressing his anger against the farmer unions and Punjabis for branding him a "traitor".

"I have raised the voice of Punjab and its people. I was branded a traitor. There were 5 lakh people at the Red Fort, including singers and leaders, but only one (I) was singled out," Sidhu said.

Sidhu appeared unapologetic and tried to justify the hoisting of religious and farmer unions' flags parallel to the Tricolour at the Red Fort.

"Flags were hoisted as the people wanted to show their anger to the government. But nobody took a stand. I have been deeply hurt, not because of what the government said, but what the people are saying about me," he said.

Sidhu claimed he is not in Mumbai and is rather living with Bihari labourers.

"The Bihari labourers who work in our fields are supporting me, and I have been living with them for two days now. I am sitting in the fields, and people are saying I am in Mumbai," Sidhu said.

Sidhu said that he is not a BJP or RSS man as claimed by the people. Sidhu said had he been a government's man, he would have enjoyed the luxury of a hotel. "I have nothing to eat, and I am surviving on kinnow. Had I been a government's man, I would have been in a hotel or a resort," he said.
