Kerala: LDF, UDF announce names of candidates for the Rajya Sabha polls

With the current strength of the house, all three candidates are expected to make it through to the Rajya Sabha from Kerala.

The ruling Left Democratic Front (LDF) and opposition United Democratic Front (UDF) has announced its candidates for the upcoming Rajya Sabha polls from Kerala.

While the LDF has decided to field John Brittas and V Sivadasan as its candidates from the CPI(M), The UDF is fielding P V Abdul Wahab as its candidate from the Indian Union Muslim League (IUML).

John Brittas is one of the senior journalists from Kerala and has held the position of Media Advisor to sitting Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan. At present, he is the Managing Director of Kairali Television, a Malayalam channel network managed by the CPI(M).

Dr V Sivadasan is a former National Secretary of SFI, the students wing of Communist Party of India (Marxist). This is the first attempt for both John Brittas and V Sivadasan in the Rajya Sabha polls.

P V Abdul Wahab is a Kerala-based businessman and state treasurer of IUML. Abdul Wahab will be getting a second consecutive term after his present term ended in February this year. Earlier, he had represented the party in Rajya Sabha from 2004-2010.

With the current strength of the house, all three candidates are expected to make it through to the Rajya Sabha from Kerala. The polls are due on the 30th of this month.
