After floating corpses, now bodies found buried in sand in UP's Unnao

While some people burn the bodies, others bury the bodies in the sand by the river.

After the horror of bodies found floating in rivers, now dead bodies were spotted buried in sand at two locations along the Ganga river in Unnao district of Uttar Pradesh. The bodies, found near the river bank in Unnao’s Buksar village, were found to be in various stages of decay, some even mauled by stray dogs.

However, there was no confirmation if these bodies were of COVID patients. "Our team has found buried bodies in an area far from the river. A search is being conducted for more bodies in other areas. I've asked the team to carry out an inquiry. Action will be taken accordingly," ANI quoted the District Magistrate of Unnao as saying. The bodies were mainly found buried at the Rautapur Ganga Ghat in Hajipur area.

Reportedly, Buksar is a major cremation spot for three districts—Fatehpur, Rai Bareily and Unnao. While some people burn the bodies, others bury the bodies in the sand by the river.

Locals are concerned after the discovery of the bodies as monsoon is fast approaching. "Once the Ganga river becomes flooded with water, these bodies will be washed ashore. The district administration should exhume the bodies and perform a proper cremation," DNA reported citing a local.

The incident came to light only days after dead bodies began washing up on the banks of Ganga in Ghazipur and Ballia districts.
