The Sessions Court on Monday sent Ashish Mishra, son of Union Minister of State for Home Ajay Mishra Teni, to three-day police custody in connection with the Lakhimpur Kheri violence on October 3.

“He has been sent to police remand with conditions,” prosecution advocate SP Yadav said.

Ashish was arrested on Saturday by the Uttar Pradesh Police in connection with the violence in which eight people, including four farmers, were brutally killed.

Earlier today, Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra and other party leaders observed ‘maun vrat’ (silent protest) at Gandhi statue in GPO, Lucknow, demanding the dismissal of Ajay Mishra.

Uttar Pradesh Minister Siddharth Nath Singh said that the law of land will take its own course and will not be influenced by any kind of pressure.

The incident has been likened by many leaders with the Jallianwala Bagh massacre of the pre-Independence era due to the gory, grim and dastardly way in which a vehicle was caught on mowing down farmer protesters in Lakhimpur Kheri.

Security was beefed up outside the Sessions Court in Lakhimpur Kheri where Ashish was produced today. The Uttar Pradesh Police have so far arrested three people in connection with the case, including Ashish.
