The woman somehow managed to flee and seek refuge in a nearby house. At the time, she had her hands tied and her mouth gagged with her shawl. The boy, who was studying class X, was waiting for the woman to cross that way when he attacked her.

The survivor was rushed to Kondotty taluk hospital and from there referred to Manjeri district hospital where her condition was reported to be stable.

The young woman suffered injuries on her face, lips, and jaws, reports said.

The police reportedly narrowed in on the suspect after examining the CCTV visuals.

The boy had scratch marks on his body. When enquired by people he claimed that he was attacked by a stray dog. But during police questioning, he is stated to have confessed to the crime.
