A leader who took a strong environmental stand: PT Thomas MLA passes away

PT Thomas, who represented Idukki Lok Sabha constituency, has been a Member of the Legislative Assembly from Thrikkakara since 2016.

Senior Congress leader and KPCC working president and Thrikkakara MLA PT Thomas (70) has passed away. He died at Vellore Hospital at 10.15 am. He was being treated for cancer. He is currently the Congress Legislative Party Secretary and a member of the AICC. He was twice elected to the Kerala Legislative Assembly from Thodupuzha.

PT Thomas, who represented Idukki Lok Sabha constituency, has been a Member of the Legislative Assembly from Thrikkakara since 2016.

He was born on December 12, 1950 in Idukki, Upputhodu, Puthiyaparambil, the fourth of five children of Thomas and Annamma. He was educated at St. George's High School, Parathode, Mar Ivanios, Thiruvananthapuram, Newmans, Thodupuzha, Maharaja's, Ernakulam and Kozhikode - Ernakulam Law Colleges.

He has served as KSU Idukki District President, State General Secretary, State President, Kerala University Senate Member, Youth Congress State General Secretary and Idukki DCC President. In 1990 he was elected a member of the Idukki District Council from the Vathikudi division.
