Over 1 lakh people sing 'Vande Mataram' during IPL 2022 closing ceremony, video viral
Before the action started in the big final of the 2022 Indian Premier League (IPL) between Gujarat Titans (GT) and Rajasthan Royals (RR), fans were entertained by a mesmerizing closing ceremony at Ahmedabad's Narendra Modi Stadium.
The star performer of the evening was legendary singer AR Rahman who stole the show by singing some of the finest songs from yesteryears such as 'Jai Ho' and 'Rang de Basanti.' However, the highlight of the ceremony was his rendition of 'Vande Mataram.' The song brought the crowd consisting of more than 1,00,000 lakh people on their feet as the entire stadium joined Rahman in a moment that brought goosebumps to all inside the stadium and those watching on TV.
Before Rahman's performance, popular Bollywood actor Ranveer Singh dazzled the crowd with a stunning performance. Ranveer grooved to a lot of famous Hindi movie songs from recent years in a performance that won the hearts of onlookers from around the globe. He also took a lap of the entire stadium and joined Rahman on the stage.
The ceremony kickstarted with former India head coach making a big announcement of the BCCI creating the world record for the largest sports jersey ever. The record-breaking kit was kept on the middle of the ground had logos of all 10 teams that took part in IPL 2022.
According to reports, a record-breaking crowd of more than 1,00,000 people are inside the stadium for the summit clash. The Narendra Modi Stadium whose construction was completed just before the COVID-19 pandemic struck in 2020 is the world's largest cricket stadium.
Talking about the match, RR skipper Sanju Samson won the toss and chose to bat first. GT made one change to their team with Lockie Ferguson taking Alzarri Joseph's place. Yashasvi Jaiswal was dismissed for a knock of 22 in the powerplay.
