UP officer, who was shot 7 times for exposing scam, clears UPSC

When he was posted in Muzaffarnagar in 2009, he had unearthed a Rs 83-crore scam in the social welfare department at the age of 26 years.

A social welfare officer of UP's Hapur, Rinkoo Singh Rahee, who was shot seven times for exposing a Rs 83-crore scam in 2009, has secured the 683rd rank in the Union Public Service Commission civil service exams.

Rahee had cleared the Uttar Pradesh Public Service Commission's Provincial Civil Service (PCS) examination in 2008.

When he was posted in Muzaffarnagar in 2009, he had unearthed a Rs 83-crore scam in the social welfare department at the age of 26 years. Rahee's move invited several enemies and he was shot with seven bullets for exposing corruption. He somehow got saved, but one of his eyes got severely affected and his face got distorted.

After that, he has been posted in several other places in the state, including Bhadohi, Shravasti, and Lalitpur.

Rahee's father, Shivdan Singh, a resident of Dori Nagar in the Aligarh district of UP, runs a flour mill.

Shivdan Singh said as his financial condition was not good, he could not send his children to convent schools. Rahee studied in government institutions. He got a scholarship and then pursued BTech at Tata Institute before clearing PCS.

Rahee used to teach at a local coaching centre for civil service exams. His students would ask him to appear for the UPSC exams. Hence, he took the step and cleared all levels of the exam.
