'End this now': Kerala gold smuggling accused collapses before media
Swapna Suresh, the main accused in the Kerala gold smuggling case, collapsed on Saturday while addressing the media at a press conference. Before collapsing, she made an emotional appeal and said, "Please kill me so that the story will get over. I'm not well. Give me a chance to live."
She was addressing the media to explain the case against her lawyer R Krishnaraj. The police had filed non-bailable charges against Krishnaraj over a Facebook post that allegedly threatened to hurt religious sentiments.
She said the potential arrest of her lawyer was a deliberate attempt to isolate her.
According to Swapna, the turn of events was just as her "dear friend" Shaj Kiran had warned. "He confidentially told me that Sarith would be taken and he was taken away," said Swapna.
Swapna added that Kiran had told her that they would come for her lawyer and that is exactly what is happening now. "Can you imagine, I don't get a lawyer's assistance now," said Swapna.
Swapna said that those affected by her 164 statement are now targeting the people who support her. "Don't do this, please leave us alone. Let the honourable court decide," appealed an emotional Swapna.
Swapna added that she will stick to her statement and asked those who are targeting her to leave the people who support her alone. She also said her tears are those of a woman who is suffering and not a coward's.
Swapna had earlier refrained from addressing the media, citing health issues, and reiterated the same on Saturday. "I'm forced to come before the media, before the public today," said Swapna.
