Gujarat a dry state, but over 845 people died in last 15 years: AAP on hooch tragedy

Meanwhile, the Gujarat police have filed an FIR and have registered a case under Section 302 (murder).

As soon as the death toll in the Gujarat hooch tragedy rose to 28, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) said that even when liquor has been banned in the state, over 845 people have lost their lives in the past 15 years.

"Gujarat is a dry state. Still in 15 years, 845+ people have died after drinking poisonous liquor. Such a big organized network has been running under which politicians? The government is incurring a loss of 15,000 crore due to liquor prohibition, but it is being sold openly. So in whose pocket is this money going?" AAP MLA Saurabh Bhardwaj said.

Attacking the government, Bhardwaj said that some people want the business of fake and poisonous liquor like Gujarat to run in Delhi.

"Ever since Delhi Govt has brought the New Excise Policy, these people are very upset. They want to start the same old business by removing the legal shops. There are 468 wine shops in Delhi, which is less than before," the AAP MLA said.
