Hamida Bano, living in Hyderabad in the Sindh province of Pakistan, recently connected with her family in suburban Kurla after moving out of the city in 2002 to work as domestic help in Dubai, according to a PTI report.

Hamida explained to Waliullah Maroof, an activist, how after being cheated by an agent with the promise of employment in Dubai, she ended up in the country next door.

She made Hyderabad her home and eventually married a local man, with whom she had a child. However, her husband died somewhere along the way.

Moved by Bano’s story and her longing to be reunited with her family, Maroof posted a video on his Youtube channel describing the situation and sought out a social activist in Mumbai.

Subsequently, they got a hold of Khaflan Shaikh and the activist shared the video around in his circles. The search for Bano’s daughter Yasmeen Bashir Shaikh led activists to the Kasaiwada area of Kurla.

"We are happy that our mother is alive and safe. We now want the Indian government to help us bring her back,'' Yasmeen said, after speaking to her Mom for the first time in two decades.
