Meanwhile, isolated very heavy rain predicted in the south Bengal districts on August 9 and 10.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has said that Odisha and parts of West Bengal are expected to receive very heavy rainfall as a low pressure area has concentrated into a well-marked system over the northwest Bay of Bengal, off the coasts of Odisha and northern Andhra Pradesh.

The system is likely to concentrate into a Depression and move northwestwards across Odisha and Chhattisgarh, the Bhubaneswar Meteorological Centre said.

A red alert of extremely heavy rainfall issued for the districts of Kalahandi and Rayagada. The downpour may trigger landslides/mudslides in vulnerable hilly areas. There is a possibility of flash flood and temporarily water logging in low lying areas, occasional reduction of visibility causing traffic congestion in urban areas and some damages to kutcha roads and vulnerable kutcha houses.

Heavy to very heavy rainfall very likely to occur at isolated places over the districts of Gajapati, Ganjam, Khordha, Puri, Nayagarh, Kandhamal, Rayagada, Kalahandi, Nawarangpur, Malkangiri, and Koraput from August 8 to August 9.

Heavy to very heavy rainfall also likely to occur at isolated places over the districts of Sambalpur, Bargarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Deogarh, Jharsuguda, Sundargarh, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Sonepur, Jajpur, Bhadrak, Balasore, Kendrapada with extremely heavy rainfall at isolated places over the districts of Bargarh, Sambalpur, Deogarh and Keonjhar.

Under the influence of Well-Marked low pressure area over Northwest and adjoining Westcentral Bay of Bengal off Odisha and adjoining north Andhra Pradesh coasts, Squally weather with surface wind speed reaching 45 to 55 kmph gusting to 65 kmph very likely over Northwest adjoining West Central Bay of Bengal off Odisha coast till morning of August 11, 2022.

Meanwhile, isolated very heavy rain predicted in the south Bengal districts on August 9 and 10. The Met department has predicted heavy to very heavy rain in the coastal districts of South 24 Parganas and Purba Medinipur.

The met department informed that there has been a deficiency of 46 per cent rainfall in the Gangetic Bengal during this monsoon, from June 1 till date.
