Karnataka: Authorities issue clarification after pictures of Jesus Christ, Goddess Lakshmi on ration cards surface online
Authorities issued a clarification on Wednesday after a controversy erupted in Karnataka's Ramnagar district as pictures showing images of Jesus Christ and Goddess Lakshmi on the back of ration cards surfaced online. The incident was reported from Dodda Alanahalli village of the district.
District Deputy Director of the Food and Civil Supplies Department Ramya said that the government had not printed the images. The official stated that it was a card printed by a local cyber cafe and not by the government.
Ramya further said that the ration card was not printed and the department received a complaint in this regard. The official promised strict action against the culprits involved in the printing of these images.
Meanwhile, Hindu organisations, including Sri Ram Sena, have condemned the incident and demanded a probe into the matter.
Notably, Dodda Alanahalli is the birthpace of the state's Congress President DK Shivakumar.
