Shiv Sena leader Sudhir Suri was shot dead outside a temple in Punjab's Amritsar on Friday. Shiv Sena cadres were protesting outside the temple when someone from the crowd came and shot Suri.
Sudhir Suri was the president of the Shiv Sena from Amritsar and remained engrossed in the middle of the controversy. During his formative years in politics, he used to burn effigies against terrorism and terrorists backed by Pakistan.
Later, with the emergence of social media, he gained popularity, whereupon he started speaking against Khalistan and was accused of hate speeches.
He was arrested in April 2020 by the Amritsar rural police for his objectionable remarks against the Tablighi Jamaat community.
Three months later, he was arrested again from Madhya Pradesh's Indore after his video clip against women and inciting enmity between different groups went viral.
In July 2021, he was apprehended for the third time by the Amritsar police after he allegedly uploaded a video on social media, uttering objectionable words against a particular community.
