11-year-old boy in Assam identifies man who killed, raped 13-yr-old sister
Police in Assam's Cachar district said on Wednesday that a 13-year-old girl who had been missing since Saturday has been discovered dead in a forest area. According to police, the victim's 43-year-old neighbour has been apprehended for allegedly kidnapping and killing the victim. Police also said that the victim's 11-year-old brother was able to identify the accused.
An official stated that medical examinations are ongoing and police believe this to be a rape and murder case, Hindustan Times reported.
The victim and her family attended a wedding ceremony on November 6 and the girl reportedly went missing in the evening. According to a policeman from Joypur police station, the victim's younger brother, who is roughly 11 years old, told the family that a man had offered both of them chocolate, but he declined it. The youngster claimed that his sister accepted it and consented to accompany the man. He reportedly tried to follow them, but the man yelled at him and he turned around. When the girl disappeared, he later recognised the man, the official added.
According to Dinesh Kumar, a sub-divisional police officer in Lakhipur, the accused has admitted to kidnapping the teenager. Kumar said that he gave the police directions to the bush where the corpse had been dumped. However, he hasn't yet confessed to the alleged rape, Kumar added.
