The 79-year-old veteran politician will be admitted to HCG Oncology Centre in Bengaluru, where he was seeking treatment for cancer after the laser surgery in Germany he underwent some months back. Earlier today, he was discharged from Neyyatinkara NIMS hospital, where he underwent treatment for pneumonia. He travelled in a car from the hospital to the airport.

His wife Mariyamma, his children Mariam Oommen, and Achu Oommen, and Congress leader Benny Behanan, MP, accompanied him to Bengaluru. Congress leaders PC Vishnu Nath, MLA, and MM Hassan came to see him off at the Thiruvananthapuram airport.

Meanwhile, Oommen Chandy once again dismissed allegations that he was denied proper medical care by his family. Speaking to media persons at the airport, Ommen Chandy said that the controversies about his treatment are unnecessary.

“I don’t know how such reports emanated. They pained me and my family members,” Chandy said.

Oommen Chandy’s brother Alex V Chandy had earlier alleged that his children and wife were denying him treatment. Alex V Chandy filed a complaint with the state Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan the other day.

In his complaint, Alex said that Oommen Chandy’s family has been denying him treatment. He also said that he was pressured by many people to withdraw the complaint after filing it. Oommen Chandy himself came on social media to dispel rumours that his family denied him treatment.

Following Alex Chandy’s complaint to the Chief Minister, the state government interfered and formed a medical board to oversee the treatment of Oommen Chandy. The board consists of six expert doctors from various departments. They monitored the health and treatment of the ailing Congress leader and coordinated with the doctors of the NIMS hospital, where he was admitted last Monday.
