Newborn declared dead at Delhi hospital, found alive before funeral

A newborn girl was found alive after being declared dead by the doctors at the LNJP hospital on Monday.

A newborn girl was found alive after being declared dead by the doctors in Delhi’s Lok Nayak Jai Prakash Narayan (LNJP) hospital on Monday.

Doctors declared her dead a few minutes after the girl was born. They packed her in a box and handed it over to the family.

The family brought the girl home and started preparing for the funeral. Later, when they opened the box, the girl was found breathing. No sooner did the family realise the girl was alive than they rushed to the hospital.

The family alleged doctors refused to admit the girl and denied ventilator support. They also said that they were completely unaware of the girl’s condition and how she had been taken care of.

The hospital is yet to respond to the family's allegations. This story will be updated when the hospital issues a formal statement.

After the incident came to the fore, BJP spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla took to Twitter and hit out at the Arvind Kejriwal-led Delhi government.

“AAP ka World class health model. A newborn was packed in a box & handed over to family, who were told that child is dead by LNJP. When family opened the box, child was alive,” said Shehzad Poonawalla.
