HC allows man who killed his mother, fried her organs, to attend daughter's wedding

The HC bench said it was not inclined to grant temporary bail, but it would permit the accused to attend the wedding with police escort.

The Bombay High Court has permitted a man convicted for killing his mother and frying her organs, to attend the wedding of his daughter under police escort.

In July 2021, Kolhapur man Sunil Rama Kuchkoravi was sentenced to be hanged by the neck till he was dead, for the offence of murder, subject to confirmation by the High Court. The judge had also remarked that the case was the rarest of rare as it shook the social conscience of society.

During the hearing on Monday, advocate Yug Mohit Chaudhari, representing Kuchkoravi, explained that the motive of him killing his mother was still unknown and it had been done in an inebriated state. Chaudhari said, “We don’t know the motive. Even his family is shocked. He was a wonderful man, they all say. Unblemished record. He used to have frequent headaches, so he used to consume liquor."

Chaudhari said that to attend the wedding, a temporary bail for a week could be granted. However, the bench of Justices AS Gadkari and PD Naik said they were not inclined to grant temporary bail but they would permit the accused to attend the wedding with police escort.

When Chaudhari said the accused would not be able to afford the escort charges as he belonged to the below poverty line strata of society, the bench agreed to waive the charges.

“We are allowing him to be taken out of prison for three days only because it is his daughter’s wedding,” the bench said.

The court permitted the accused to be taken out from 9 am to 6 pm on February 23-25, 2023, and by 6 pm, he would be brought back to jail.

The state government had filed a confirmation plea (for the death sentence) before the high court in 2021 itself. The confirmation plea is yet to be heard. In the meantime, the accused filed for temporary bail to attend his daughter’s wedding.
