IAS officer shares pic of 6 Indian paise that used to be of great value. Twitter gets nostalgic

IAS officer Awanish Sharan shared a post on Twitter that includes a picture showing 6 different Indian paisa minted since the year 1968.

With changing times, one has to leave behind a lot of stuff that used to be quite dear. No, we are not talking about any objects, but the Indian currency that was in circulation back when our grandparents were kids. At that time, the value of the Indian rupee was quite close to the US dollar and a lot could be bought with just 1 paisa.

We know that this is quite hard to believe, as even a packet of instant noodles costs Rs 12 now. But we bet that you have heard stories from your parents or grandparents about how they used to get a mere 10 paise allowance during their school or college days and it was enough! If kids got a rupee to spend every day, that indicated they came from a rich family.

IAS officer Awanish Sharan shared a post on Twitter that is bound to jog those memories of the days gone by. His post includes a picture showing 6 different Indian paisa minted since the year 1968. If you’re a 90s kid, you’ll probably relate to the last one (a 50 paise coin) that used to fetch candies or a small pouch of mungfali.

“Which of these coins have you bought something with?” read the caption.
