IAS officer Supriya Sahu shared a video of a massive installation art made with plastic waste fished out from the ocean at Besant Nagar Beach in Chennai.

The issue of plastic pollution, especially in the oceans, is a major subject of concern. Not only single-use plastic products, but solid items like toys have also been found clogging the sea and making adjoining beaches dirty.

IAS officer Supriya Sahu shared a video of a massive installation art made with plastic waste fished out from the ocean at Besant Nagar Beach in Chennai. The art has been shaped like a fish and several items like plates, crates, toys, big tumblers and several other items were put in the body of the fish.

Sahu pointed out how the alarming level of plastic pollution is a threat to the marine biodiversity of the ocean.

“We have put up this installation made with plastic waste retrieved from the ocean at Besant Nagar Beach in Chennai to mark the Mega Beach Clean up programme organised today. It not only portrays the sad reality of pollution in our oceans but also raises an alarm about the serious threat to marine biodiversity,” read the caption.

The video has garnered over 70.8k views and tons of reactions. People were shocked to see the type of things that people discard in the ocean. Many pointed out how there are many videos showing how marine animals get suffocated by plastic.
