Six People were killed and 40 injured after a massive fire broke out at a 7-storey building in Mumbai's Goregaon today.

The injured were taken to two hospitals, HBT Hospital and Cooper Hospital, in Mumbai.

The fire started around 3 am at Jay Bhavani building in Goregaon West's Azad nagar locality, a Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) said. The injured residents were taken to a trauma center in Jogeshwari and Cooper Hospital in Juhu.

Firefighting operations began as soon as officials reached the spot and those injured were shifted to a hospital for treatment.

The blaze was later brought under control and cooling efforts were underway.

According to the locals, the cloth lying in the parking area had caught fire after which the blaze spread to the entire area.

Meanwhile, investigations were underway to ascertain the exact cause of the fire.

Expressing grief over the incident, Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Friday took to X and said he was in touch with the BMC and the Mumbai Police and that all assistance was being provided.
