To the Indian film industry, despite the COVID-19 surge, losing a versatile actor like Irrfan Khan was a loss that cannot be replaced. He would have turned 54 today. The ace actor passed away in Mumbai on April 29, 2020, but not a day goes by that he is not missed or remembered by those around him and ones who worked with him in films.

Feel like you've gone for a long shoot: Irrfan's son on late actor

His son Babil took to Instagram to share a cute throwback video featuring mother Sutapa Sikdar, brother Aayan and dad Irrfan.

Babil also penned an emotional birthday note for his father. In his note, he has recalled how his father never encouraged him to remember his birthday. He has also mentioned that Irrfan never identified institutions like ‘contractual marriages and birthday celebration’.

His note read as, “You never identified with institutions such as contractual marriage and birthday celebrations. Perhaps, that is why I don’t remember anyone’s birthdays because you never remembered mine and never encouraged me to remember yours. It was just normal to us what seemed absurd from the outside, we celebrated everyday (bringing personal experiential authenticity to the cliche). On the occasion, Mamma would have to remind us both; but this time I could not forget yours if I tried. It’s your birthday Baba. Shoutout to all the technologically inept parents, notice that they did not finish saying that they miss me.”

Oscar-winning director Danny Boyle opened up on collaborating with Irrfan in Slumdog Millionaire. "Irrfan was a wonderful actor and a pivotal figure in the making of Slumdog Millionaire," Boyle told the BBC after the actor's demise. Irrfan played the role of an inspector in the film. "It wasn't a huge role and in fact on paper it was even less rewarding looking. But Irrfan saw the possibility of guiding our audience with his dignity, his grace, his charm, his intelligence and his calmness, through this crossword puzzle of an idea of a film."

On the occasion of New Year 2021, Jurassic World actress Bryce Dallas Howard remembered Irrfan in a social media post as she shared their still from the 2015 film. "The key to a happy life is to accept you are never actually in control. — #IrrfanKhan as Simon Masrani in @jurassicworld ⁣⁣Lesson received, 2020. Miss you greatly, Irrfan (sic)," Bryce shared in a social media post.
