'Jallikattu' out of Oscars 2021 run; 'Bittu' makes it to Live Action Short Film shortlist

Directed by Karishma Dev Dube, Bittu is among the top 10 short films that made it to the next level of Oscars 2021.

The 93rd Oscars shortlists in nine categories were announced today, February 10. Karishma Dev Dube directorial Bittu has made it to the Live Action Short Film shortlist. On the other hand, India’s official Oscar entry Jallikattu failed to make it to the International Feature Film shortlist.

The Academy made the announcement of nine shortlists for the following categories: International Feature Film, Documentary, Original Score, Original Song, Makeup and Hairstyling, Visual Effects, Live-Action Short Film, Documentary Short Subject, and Animated Short Film. The members of the Academy will select the nominees for the 2021 Oscars from these reduced lists of contenders in each category.

Malayalam film Jallikattu, which was India's official entry for the upcoming 93rd Academy Awards, 2021 in the Best International Feature Film category, failed to make it to the longer shortlist of fifteen films that will compete to make it to the later stages of the nominations. Films from 93 countries were eligible in the category, the most in Oscars history.

Directed by Karishma Dev Dube, Bittu is among the top 10 short films that made it to the next level of Oscars 2021. Based on a true story, Bittu tells the tale of a heartwarming friendship between two school-going friends. The film participated in over eighteen film festivals across the world.
